We will work towards selecting a texture you like and creating a generous sized handbag in the final few weeks. Wk 1: Create a flower 'scene' with a 3D relief flower head. Wk 2 & 3: Exploring textures through 6 samples - consider your colour pallet. Wk 4: Making a 3D vessel using a selected texture from previous weeks. Wk 5: Breathe week (finish off/take stock/test out/try something) We will also look at bag planning for next week. Wk 6: Bag making with a resist and chosen texture. Wk 7: Create a lining for your bag. Stitch in lining, clasp and handles* (Sewing machine required - you can bring in your own** or use one of the studio's.) Wk 8: Finish off bag construction - or - explore your own felt project. • Creative Textiles Termly Block (B5)

The idea behind this block is to explore various processes these could be lino/gelli/silkscreen printing, fabric collage and manipulation, dyes, image transfers, chemical treatments and sometimes a touch of felt making. Most blocks cover free machine stitch. We explore processes through guided projects ie it could be mini free stitch quilts or free stitched dissolvable bowls. Often mixing up processes ie free stitching on paper prints or felt. Focus this term: This coming terms plan is still 'under construction', feel free to ask me questions if your not sure. Sessions start at 10 and technically finish at 12.30 (though give yourself a window on that time) Its a lovely group of ladies who already do this block, feel free to bob in on a Tuesday before we hit half term and check us out. New Students: Do book here, however to fully secure your space email in to arrange a deposit please (£40 - refundable if cancelled up to 2 weeks before start date). I sometimes limit available places on the website, as current students get first refusal for the next block. Do email in if it appears that there's no places. Full payment of course fees is due 2 weeks before the block starts. Continuing students: Feel free to book here and pay using the BAC's details already supplied. (2 weeks before start date please). FAQ: Do I need my own sewing machine? Nope - However most folks prefer to use and learn with their own, but either is fine. As long as I know you will need one of the studio's, its fine; just let me know from the outset. Personal machines need to be in good working order - make sure there are no signs of damage to power leads etc. Can I still do this block if I don't know free machine stitch/embroidery/thread drawing? Yes (however*) - This technique is used in most of the Creative Textile blocks. While it is possible to get a hold of the process within the course block, *I have discovered that for complete newbies to free machine stitch, it is more beneficial to provide a session solely on those processes, designed as a smaller cosy beginners day. Please book one of these sessions before the main block if it is a process that's new to you: 'Intro to Free machine Stitch' - Day Workshop. Note: If you are bringing your own machine, it needs to be in good order. You will need a free machine foot etc (more details can be found on the booking link for 'Intro to Free Machine Stitch')

  • Intro to Sewing Machines | Day session

Lets get you to grips with how your sewing machine works... We will cover what all the parts of your machine do, what tension is and how to change it and explore what stitches you can create with your machine. Before you leave, we will make sure you are confident with how to thread up your machine, bobbin winding and how to create the perfect stitch, including how to neatly start and finish a line of stitching. You will also get to try your hand at a little bit of applique. This will be a small group session or no more than 4 people so I can spend as much time with you and your machine as possible.

  • Wool Embroidery with Vicki

Join me for a fun afternoon of embroidering a useful felt needle case. I will guide you through the basic stitches which you can use to great effect. There will be a variety of designs to choose from including DMC cotton thread or fine wool thread. The course includes all materials and a kit for you to take home and finish off. In three hours we will get quite a lot of the stitching done, and every stitch will be demonstrated. I will offer you a choice of design prior to the course, so you can choose your favourite. There will be plenty of time to practice the stitches, and you will leave with confidence. This workshop is suitable for beginners upwards, even if you are an advanced stitcher, you will still get plenty out of this style of stitching, whether it be the fine threads that you choose or wool that is easier to learn with, both are easily achievable. The needle case is formed from seven squares of felt stitched together with blanket stitch. It can hold a five inch hoop in the back pocket, and it also has a felt strip to hold your needles safe, and a little pocket to keep threads in, they are so useful and can also be used as a cosmetics case or purse. You will be guided through every stage: - The design will be ready traced for you to get going. - I will show you how to place your the felt fabric into the hoop. - Threading the wool or thread through the needle, with a very simple method. - Basic stitch styles, which are easy to master and will be used to great effect. - Following the course, you are not alone as I will be available by email if you need any further advice, and there are stitch tutorial videos at my website. I am a qualified teacher in Art & Creative Practice, and over the past year I have demonstrated on many shows at the craft TV channel 'Create and Craft' with my branded embroidery kits from 'Little House of Victoria', For further details, please email me at hello@littlehouseofvictoria.com
